Spain La Vuelta

The La Vuelta 2020 is the 75th edition of the Vuelta a España (or ‘Tour de Spain’), which is one of the three grand tours of cycling. It is primarily held in Spain but it also ventures the neighbouring countries. It was inspired by the success of Giro ‘Italia and Tour de France. Originally, this race is scheduled between the middle of August to the first weeks of September.

The event was postponed two more times and the final date was set to 20th October and 8th November. For the first time since 1985, the race isn’t held in its traditional form of 21 stages – instead, it was reduced to a format of 18 stages.

La Vuelta betting tips

Knowing the history of this tournament can help you a lot to make a good and probable bet. This event is held every year, usually in late August and early September. La Vuelta was founded already in 1935, however, there were a few years when the race was skipped due to the Spanish Civil War and then World War II.

The route of the race changes each year but the format of the race stays the same. It is classical two-time trials, the route through the Pyrenees and the finish in Madrid.

Each year, riders complete stages and their previous stage times are compounded. The rider who has the lowest finish time will be the leader of the race and wear a red jersey. Within the competition, there are more skill contests like points classification for sprinters and mountain classification for climbers. There are also combination classifications for all-around riders and team classifications.

All of this info is crucial for understanding the competition which is the first step in making a probable bet. A lot can be learned from looking back at previous competitions – players who were successful in few races in a row are unlikely to significantly dropdown.

Betting markets

While cycling isn’t such a popular betting market as for example, football, it still has a great number of fans – especially for events like Tour de France, Giro d’ Italia and La Vuelta in Spain. There are several race types of road cycling; single day, time trial, stage races and ultramarathon.

There are few interesting bets for cycling; cycling futures, race winner betting, top 3 finish, top 10 finish and stage betting. Cycling futures is betting on the winner of the event – you will have a list of participating riders with the ones that are most likely to win at the top.

Race winner betting is just the same but this can be done for any race, not just big events. The top 3 finish is an interesting one, as it allows you some room for an error. If you are not sure which rider will win, you can go with this method and secure your bet.

The top 10 finish is the same as top 3, only with more room for error. However, this type of bet usually has low Vuelta a España odds. Stage betting is choosing a rider to win a certain stage of the race. If you know the style of particular rider, this bet will be a great choice.

La Vuelta odds
