Combat
Combat sports are very popular since ancient times in all parts of the world. Naturally, people developed different competitions, rules and created venues turning into a real official sport and even Olympic like Boxing. MMA or mixed martial arts drag their roots from ancient China, Egypt, Greece, Japan and many other countries. MMA is also known as cage fighting and it is a full-contact combat sport.
The first regulated MMA league was created and regulated in the United States in the 1980s. Already in 1983, Pennsylvania state prohibited the sport but it returned in a slightly different shape in 1993. Over the years, additional rules were added and MMA became and official and beloved sport.
In boxing, the first regulated combat was in 1743. Although the rules as we know them today were not developed until 1889.
Combat bets
There are numerous types of bets for combat sports so let’s start with the Proposition Betting. It is the bet on an exact outcome of the fight. Prop bets hold various types like:
- Method of Victory – betting on the particular fighter, KO or TKO, submission or decision.
- Fight to go the Distance – bet on whether will fight last the distance or not.
- Round Betting – you choose in which round will the fight end or which fighter will win in which round.
- Total Round – bookmaker will set a determined number of rounds and you bet whether will fight finish before or after that time.
- Points Handicap – this allows you to bet a certain fighter by using the judges scoring of rounds as a handicaps.
Parlay betting is putting multiple picks on the same bet. Parlays are good for making a lot of money but they do have a downside – the bet needs to be perfect. Then, there is Future betting which is placing a wager on the event which will occur in the future.
This bet can stay active for months and it is very popular because of its potential return. Live Betting might be familiar even though it is a fairly new concept. Not too many bookmakers offer live betting for MMA so if that is your interest, make sure you check it before registering.
Combat odds
Odds are telling you two things; how much can you win and how likely is it for a fighter to win. When odds are bigger, it is less likely for a bet to be fruitful but – the prize will be much bigger. Smaller odds represent better chances to win but with much smaller profit. If you see a chance to bet on higher odds – don’t miss it.
Odds comparison
When getting started with betting, it would be best to compare the previous results with the present form of a fighter. Every fighter has its ups and downs but some tend to have patterns in strategy and you might be able to spot which kind of opponent can be a trouble. To make the best sports bet it is also important to find a good bookmaker. Browse Scannerbet to find the best offer for your needs! Bookmakers also tend to offer different odds so make sure you look into that before placing your bet in boxing or MMA/UFC.
